Track 13: Be Strict with Yourself
Another three aphorisms, strung together:
Be strict with yourself
Tolerant towards others
Grab the smooth handle
And don’t follow the mob
I hadn’t thought about the smooth handle one, but I apply it several times a week. My interpretation is to take the simple, easy approach. Why do things the hard way? There’s also a counterpart:
Barbed wire handle? Don’t grab it
Handle full of splinters? Don’t grab it
Shit-encrusted handle? Don’t grab it
Grab the smooth handle
And don’t follow the mob
Track 14: You Are the Product
Three from the aphorism list, strung together:
You are the product of your habits
Try to see the good in people
Don’t compare yourself to others
And repeat. The melody has four lines, so every line has a chance to have more than one melody. I still find myself comparing myself to others on a daily basis. That’s heavy shit to carry around. I say, “Cut it out, dummy” to make myself feel better. It makes that burden lighter.
