Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)

Pete Shelley (1955–2018)

This song was named #1 1978 Track Of The Year by the (UK) New Musical Express. Jason Idler, in Pitchfork, referred to the song as, “The peak…of the Buzzcock legacy.” While on tour, the band was watching the musical, Guys And Dolls on television, in which Adelaide says to Sky Masterson, “Have you ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn’t’ve? Wait till it happens to you.” Flash! Goes the light bulb. Pete Shelley was born Peter Campbell McNash, but adopted his last name after that of his favorite poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. He self-identified as bisexual, and married twice, having a child with his first wife. He died of a heart attack while living with his second wife, Greta, an Estonian, in Estonia.
