Vintage Jingles 24-26

Track 24: White Tower Hamburgers

Weirdly, I had never noticed that White Tower Hamburgers and White Castle Hamburgers were different entities. Or I used to know, but forgot. At my age, it’s hard to tell. But White Castle, and its square 5-cent hamburgers, originated in Kansas in 1921, while White Tower started in Milwaukee in 1926. White Tower were copycats and they eventually had a legal battle. White Castle won and is still around. White Tower went from a peak of over 250 outlets to defunct. But this immortal jingle lives on:

Oh, Whitey!
Yes, ma’am?
I love your clean White Tower and your White Tower hamburgers, too.
Always clean, always bright
Always fill me with delight
Any day, any hour, White Tower
Thank you!

Track 25: Whitman’s Sampler

This was on my favorite TV show of the ‘50s, Your Show of Shows, which featured my idols, Sid Caesar, Imogine Coca and Carl Reiner. One of the classiest TV jingles of the period. Whitman’s Samplers seem to have descended into gallant cheesiness.

All your life through, there is one thing that’s true
A woman never forgets a man who remembers
Remember with Whitman’s, this is the way
Buy her a sampler, do it today
It’s the thing to do all your life through
Why don’t you?

Track 26: Wisconsin Super Service Stations

Cheapest gas around. And an actual round.

Save, save, time and money, too
At the Wisconsin Super Service Station
There’s one near to you
