Tom Robinson (1950–)

The phrase 2-4-6-8 is based on a Gay Lib chant, 2-4-6-8 Gay Is Twice As Good As Straight 6-7-8-9 Lesbians Are Mighty Fine. Robert Christgau described it as an instant hit. That was my feeling when I first heard it on the radio. Although banned by the BBC, “Glad To Be Gay” was another hit for Robinson. Despite this ban, he eventually produced programs for all BBC’s national radio stations, Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, 5 Live, and 6 Music. He has been a longtime supporter and former volunteer of London’s Gay Switchboard help-line. He is married to Sue Brearley. They have two children. He has described himself as, “A gay man who happens to be in love with a woman.”
